Occasional Off Roading

August 2nd, 2010

I go off-roading once in a while-do I need to worry about vehicle recovery?

The issue with vehicle recovery is that those most likely to need it are also those least likely to come prepared. Extreme off-roaders fit expensive heavy-duty winches, bigger and different types of tyres and know special driving techniques that can prevent them from getting stuck in a variety of conditions. Most 4×4 owners however, go offroading occasionally to take in the great outdoors, but are by no means experts.

LiftTracks, (although more experience drivers can really do some interesting things with them) are a great option for those who want both piece of mind off road, as well as the ability to get themselves out of different situations they may get stuck in.

Vehicle recovery is something everyone should have in mind, not just the hardcore offroaders, and LiftTracks are a “one-stop shop” way of doing so. For a fraction of the price of some of the more heavy-duty products you get one, multifunctional device that is small enough to keep in your vehicle.  Knowing it’s always there if you need it gives you confidence to spend more time off road without any serious investment or bulky equipment.

In addition, for those who don’t necessarily belong to 4×4 clubs or trail with a group, LiftTracks are a responsible,  confidence-inspiring alternative which are easy to carry, easy to store and easy to use.

Tread Lightly-Go easy on nature (Even if nature’s not going easy on you)

June 12th, 2010

LiftTrax is a tread lightly product for responsible 4x4 recovery

It’s often the people who have the closest connection with nature that do it the most damage.  Off roading is already an abrasive pastime but it’s when you get stuck that the real damage gets done.

Getting bogged down leads to everything from rock-stacking to branch-breaking to digging which can leave trails worse for wear. Apart from creating problems for other offroaders, it does damage to some of the most breathtaking stretches of land in the world.

Using LiftTracks means that you don’t have to change the lie of the land to fill the gap between your wheels and ground, winch off a tree or use wood or branches to gain traction.

This makes you considerably less likely to do damage to trails and helps ensure that others can enjoy them too, for years to come. LiftTracks’ combination of lift and traction are a more effective and more trail-friendly alternative to anything you’ll find outdoors.

LiftTracks is also a proud member of Tread Lightly!® (www.treadlighty.org) the American national nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote responsible outdoor recreation through ethics education and stewardship. We support their admirable efforts to promote responsible outdoor recreation and ethical offroading.

Fisherman’s Friend

April 10th, 2010

If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there’d be a shortage of fishing poles.  ~Doug Larson.

Many a fishing trip has been ruined by nature getting the better of vehicles on the way to a great fishing spot or when you thought you were heading home for dinner.

For those of us who like to fish, we know that where land meets water you are likely to find mud, sand or rocks, just three of many things that waste valuable fishing time on getting there or back.

There are various big, bulky and expensive tools available to help you get unstuck from specific situations but LiftTracks are one multifunctional device that frees you from several different types of problematic terrain.  As well as giving you grip, they raise the vehicle, lifting it up away from whatever it is stuck on so you can get free and go freely to  and from your fishing spot.

LiftTracks are the perfect accessory that no angler should leave the house without.  Versatile, strong and yet light and compact, LiftTracks give you traction when your vehicle gets bogged down in mud, sand, rocks or marshland and roll up very small so that you can just consider them a part of your fishing gear. They are not the sort of thing you need every day but are there for the ones you really do.

Instead of calling a tow truck or a friend to come and dig you out, you just roll out your LiftTracks and get yourself out quickly and easily.

Incidentally, apart from being a great vehicle recovery tool for emergencies, they also make handy bench seats for long days by the waterside.

Jacking or LiftTracking?

March 10th, 2010

One of the most common questions we are asked is “How do LiftTracks compare with other recovery products such as Hi Lift Jacks?”

The answer is as follows. Hi Lift Jacks raise your vehicle off the ground after which you must then fill the gaps under the wheels by stacking rocks or branches, in order to gain traction. When using LiftTracks however, you don’t need to distinguish between the lifting and traction because it does both.

While they won’t lift as high as Hi Lift Jacks do, LiftTracks usually lift more than enough to pick the vehicle up off a high centre position or to get out of a ditch.  In more extreme situations you can put two LiftTracks on top of each other in order to gain extra height.

In addition, you don’t have to waste any time stacking rocks or branches as the LiftTracks’ 6mm rubber grips will give you the traction you need.

Another advantage of LiftTracks over Hi Lifts is their weight. Weighing in at a hefty 14kg, the Hi-lift is almost as heavy as four LiftTracks! This makes it both harder to use and adds weight to your vehicle.

Not needing to rock-stack is particularly advantageous as LiftTracks are a Tread Lightly®  product which can help reduce the wear to off-road trails caused by people moving rocks around and in turn, changing the lie of the land constantly.

We believe that LiftTracks are also a preferable alternative to Hi-Lift Jacks and other long metal devices as they are compact and easy to store in your vehicle. Other products also often require accessories such as plates bases or “lift-mate’s” in order  to be able to use them with your 4×4. LiftTracks however, require no extra parts or vehicle whatsoever.
